FraserWood StrengthTested™ Timber

A New Product Under Development: The Stability of Engineered Wood and the Natural Beauty of Solid-Sawn Coast Douglas Fir

Timber is a diverse natural product sourced from various regions, logged by producers of varying skill, and sawn by sawmills with widely differing technologies. To help institute a system of quality controls, the western wood grading agencies have developed strength standards for commercially viable timber species, which in turn have helped establish basic levels of safety and reliability.

Because of the wide range of products and production methods, these minimum standards must include naturally occurring weak material, a conservative approach that leads to some timber being underrated. Coast Douglas fir is a good example.

Reaching for Higher Design Values

Unwilling to have our high strength fiber grouped with lower strength species, and with long experience processing exceptional Coast Douglas fir, FraserWood has sought to change the stress rating by developing a new standard, one based on quality and innovation:

  • Controlling the source of timber
  • In-depth structural testing to prove the strength characteristics
  • Providing the production engineering and technology
  • On-going process control testing for our quality assurance program

By advancing the science of natural wood and creating a strict quality-assurance program, we’re in the process of offering the industry’s first proprietary-grade natural timber. Equipped with these capabilities, FraserWood will be able to provide architects and engineers greater flexibility, efficiency and reach with its Coast Douglas fir.
